Throw Back Thursday: Chpt 2

Happy Thursday everyone!

Once again, It’s time to dust some cobwebs and fall in love (possibly) all over again with books from our Past.

If you haven’t stumbled across my previous post on this tag, go over and take a look: Throw Back Thursday: Chpt 1

The rules are simple:

  • You haven’t read the book recently (has to have been at least 3 years and back)

That’s it! Simple, right?

While you’re dusting the dust off those pages and reading the excerpt on the back, ask yourself the following:

  1. When did you read it?
  2. Do you think you would you read it again now?
  3. Did this book have any impact on what type of books you read today?

[Feel Free to modify the list any way you want]

This week TBT book is The Secret Circle: The Initiation and The Captive part 1 by L.J Smith.

Many of you have heard of The Secret Circle as the poorly made TV series that was canceled after one season (thank goodness they did cancel it) on CW11 many years ago. It was a horrible rendition of a pretty well-written story, that started out okay but as the episodes progressed…it turned into a giant mass of confusion.

It really was such a shame because if done properly, they could’ve had a show that was different from the ones that were running that year. (I believe it was the year of the Vampire, which spawned hundreds of shows and 7 or 8 vampire movies).

Well….they really missed the ball on that one.

Despite how horrible the show was, the book was another story.

I picked up The Secret Circle a little after I had read Vampire Academy. I wanted a break from Vampires for a while and while I walked down the aisles in BORDERS, The Secret Circle stood out to me.

I remember enjoying the unique elements that it provided and how the story unfolded, giving you small clues to the mysteries that surrounded it. There were moments where I became frustrated because it seemed that where one loose end was tied, another unfurled, dragging on the story just a little longer than what I wanted. Thankfully, it all came together at the end, and I was able to appreciate it.

Reading the excerpt again, I can’t say if I would read it again any time soon. My tastes have definitely changed over the years as far as writing styles I enjoy reading. I did enjoy the book when I read it but is it worth the re-read? I feel like I wouldn’t finish it.
