Camp Nanowrimo: Prep
Happy Friday bookworms! Camp Nanowrimo is fast approaching and your girl here is prepared to knock that novel out!
Last year I was utterly unprepared BOTH camps. I had nothing prepped, didn’t have a set goal until a few days after it began, didn’t have anything for inspiration, and barely kept up with my writing schedule. This year I’m more fired up than ever; its time I stopped focusing on a WIP novel that hasn’t moved in years, so I’m starting fresh.
What is Camp Nanowrimo?
Camp Nanowrimo is a twice a year event, usually in April and July, where you can work on any creative project! It doesn’t just have to be your novel. It can be revisions, first drafts, poems, short stories, etc.
Nanowrimo has made the following changes in the last couple of months:
- CampNanowrimo’s website no longer exists. It’s all under one website, Nanowrimo.org or YWP.Nanowrimo.org
- YWP.Nanowrimo.org is for younger writers. 17 and younger.
- Nanowrimo.org is for 18+

What is my goal?
My goal for April’s camp nanowrimo is to hash out those 50,000 words so that in July’s camp nanowrimo, I can work on editing and revising. In order to achieve this, I need to write at least 1,667 words a day. Ideally, I would like to dedicate about 2 hours to just writing, either before or after work, so I would need to write 834 words an hour.
About my project:
Title: So far my project is Untitled. I have a number of ideas for the title but I’m the type to wait until midway of the story to see which one fits.
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, New Adult
Setting: An alternate world where Kingdoms still rule
Plot: Twin sisters must protect the kingdom and people they love from a seemingly otherworldly evil.
So far I have two boards set up on Pinterest. 1 for just this Camp Nanowrimo and another for year-round inspo.
I’ll also be setting up a Writer’s BUJO with spreads for all 4 Nanowrimo Events.
If you would like to keep track of my progress, all the above will be in Ink & Paper. Not to mention, I will be posting regularly during the event on my progress and other inspirations such as songs, places, etc.
