Mid-year Review 2020
How is it Mid-year review season already?
It’s insane how fast time has been going but then again, being quarantined for this long has days bleeding into the next. Every day follows a similar pattern and urges us to be more creative at home. I’ve put work into Anovelidea.net as far as revamping old posts and playing around with the design. I have more projects lined up for the rest of the year that I’m excited about and cant wait to share with you all.
A Novel Idea started off as a small resolution one year ago. Last year by this time, it was just beginning to pick off as I was learning to interact with the community better. I was learning what days worked for me, how to reach out to others for event participation and learning the ropes of reading for the intent of blogging about it. In a way, starting this blog helped me go back to reading more frequently…something I’d stop doing since my previous jobs were overworking me. (I hate you retail).
2020 Mid Year Blog Review
I think I did pretty well my first half as a self-hosted blog. Comparing the numbers to last year, I have a 68.8% increase in visitors and a 66.4% increase in views. WOW!
Seeing how much my blog has grown over the year is amazing to me. A year back, I would have never thought that I would see such an increase!
I’m still learning how to market myself and have just gotten SEO down (somewhat). I have to give a shout out to Pinterest. It has helped me so much! It’s constantly been a driver of traffic into my blog and if you haven’t tried to use it for your blog, I highly recommend you try it!
This was not a surprise to me at all. My Friday posts have done better than my Saturday posts since I changed my schedule to Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The increase in views isn’t large but Friday’s tend to always have 2-3 readers more.
This year I have more comments, more posts, more views, more visitors and more words. However, the stats continue to show me that my engagement piece is lacking. Last year my readers were more engaged with me and it’s largely because of all the events I jumped into. This year, Bookending Summer was cancelled and I barely participated in Bookending Spring which was a huge driver in engagement last year. Then there’s the issue that I’m not reaching out to book bloggers as much anymore…..my first time energy is dwindling and I need to work on that ASAP.
Finally the part that’s been driving me insane….FOLLOWERS. I try (but fail) to not let it get to me. At the end of 2019, I almost had 200 followers on A Novel Idea….but when I made the switch to self hosted, I didn’t read or realize that I could bring them over. By the time I figured that out, I had deleted my old wordpress and had no way of getting my readers back. So I had to start from scratch.
It’s been hard since I no longer have wordpress.com to help me market myself…Not to mention, I tend to not promote my blog on my social media platforms as I should….Maybe I should start that 😅
Although my reader count is low on ANovelIdea.net, I’ve been slowly amassing a following on my Bookstagram and on Twitter. 🙂 (links at the bottom of this page!)
I’m incredibly grateful to each one of my readers. You guys are awesome and inspiring!
I think I’ve done a great job so far and am happy with where my blog is at today. I can’t believe I’ve been blogging consistently for a little over a year now (with small breaks here and there) and can’t believe I’m part of something so great like the bookish community. I’ve made such great friends and have met so many incredible bloggers who inspire me to keep blogging everyday!
I want to thank all of you for getting A Novel Idea to this point and supporting it 🙂
