One night with him will change her life…
Between her waitressing job, volunteer work, and college classes, there are never enough hours in Maggie Reilly’s day. Especially not for a relationship. Luckily, she’s got the perfect arrangement: a lover she meets three or four times a year. But when she shows up at the hotel expecting to hop into bed with one man, she accidentally ends up with another—Ben Barrett, Hollywood’s most notorious bad boy.
Ben, determined to lay low after another scandal, just wants some much-needed sleep. What he gets is a scorching make-out session with a gorgeous, naked redhead. He won’t accept her apology, but what he will accept is a place to hide out…and if there’s some hot, no-strings sex involved, why the heck not?
But Ben soon discovers that one week with his sassy, bed-hopping waitress is definitely not enough. He wants more. A lot more.
Now he needs to convince relationship-averse Maggie that a bad boy might be oh so good for her—and the best thing that’s ever happened to both of them.
Previously published in 2008, Bad Apple (formerly Midnight Encounters) features almost entirely new content, including a point-of-view switch. Enjoy this new version of an old favorite!
Funny and swoon-worthy, Bad Apple is one of those quick reads that will have you wishing for your own movie star. The book follows Maggie, a waitress, college student, and volunteer, who never has enough time for anything. Not friends and especially not a relationship. Maggie has a sweet deal though for her “needs”. Once or twice a year she meets with a “friend” that scratches her itch. Perfect arrangement right?
It might’ve seemed so until she met Ben Barrett, Hollywood’s yummy, cocky and notorious bad boy, and they make a deal that will benefit the other. Ben gets a place to hide out from the paparazzi in lieu of his most recent “scandal” and Maggie gets her no strings-attached sexual work out more than once or twice a year. But then, Ben realizes he wants more than being her arrangement. So much more. And a week might not be enough.
This book was a sweet quick read. I enjoyed both characters and really enjoyed Maggie’s development from being a workaholic to slowly realizing that there is more to life. Not to mention, the small insight we received to Ben’s personal life was perfectly placed. It helped the story move forward in a way that didn’t seem off. Elle did an amazing job with writing a one-week-love story.
The pace of the story was fast which for someone who enjoys slow-burns, was a little disappointing. However, the story is very well written that I could get over it. It was sweet and you couldn’t help but cheer Ben on. You wanted to strangle Maggie throughout most of the book but could also sympathize with her. There are times when you have to sacrifice your free time in order to achieve your dreams.
Overall, I really enjoyed Bad Apple and give it a solid 4/5 stars.
